CRES is a private company that assists individuals with criminal record expungement applications. We are not the South African Police Service (SAPS), the SAPS Criminal Record Centre, the Department of Justice and Constitutional Development, or any government entity. 3.1 Enquiry Information
When you contact us or request a free assessment, we may collect:

- Telephone number
- Brief description of your enquiry or criminal record history
3.2 Service Information
When you engage our services, we collect additional information required to process your expungement application, including:
- Full legal name, date of birth, and identity number
- Gender and race (as required by SAPS and DoJ forms)
- Physical and postal addresses
- Copies of identity documents
- Power of Attorney and Indemnity forms
3.3 Special Personal Information (POPIA Section 26)
Due to the nature of our services, we process the following categories of special personal information as defined by POPIA:
- Criminal history: Details of criminal convictions, court outcomes, case numbers, and sentences
- Biometric information: Fingerprints (required for SAPS criminal record checks)
We process this special personal information with your express written consent as required by POPIA Section 27(1)(a). You will be asked to provide explicit consent before we collect or process any special personal information.

- Preparing and submitting expungement applications to the Department of Justice
- Liaising with the SAPS Criminal Record Centre and the DoJ on your behalf

In the event that data needs to be transferred outside South Africa (for example, through the use of international cloud storage providers), we will ensure that adequate safeguards are in place as required by POPIA Section 72.

In the event of a data breach that poses a risk to your rights and freedoms, we will notify you and the Information Regulator as required by POPIA Section 22, as soon as reasonably possible after becoming aware of the breach.
